Planting Cocoa Trees for a Sustainable Future

Members of  4H Club at the Larbikrom D/A Junior High School in the Atiwa District in the Eastern Region of Ghana have planted 508 Cocoa trees to provide a sustainable livelihood, and also to prevent climate change. The group members brought Cocoa Pods from their parent's Cocoa farms and established nursery of about 1000 Cocoa Seedlings inside the school. One most interesting thing about the group's initiative is that they have inter cropped Maize and Cowpea with the Cocoa trees to provide them with food crops to support their school meals. The cowpea will also serve as cover crop and improving soil fertility for Cocoa trees in the future.
